After a lackluster showing vs the mighty Purdue, Iowa comes out looking to prove they are worthy of a New Year's Day bowl game. Unfortunately, so does Minnesota. Trying to avenge the wrongs of years past (aka Hawkeye fans attempting to take goal posts out of a dome stadium circa 2002), Minnesota defends the Metrodome's honor in a final stand. Gophers get disgraced in spite of poor Hawkeye coaching 27-17. Metrodome is shamed once again. Floyd loses pie eating contest to 3 Iowa coeds spring 09'! Oink.

How about a Ferentz apology segment? Taking that holding penalty on 3rd down rather than letting them get a field goal -- genius. Our best win in 30 years, and all you can do is call for Coach Ferentz's head!

Maybe I am simply trying to justify not laying my life savings on the rediculously low 7.5 point spread, but I have a gut feeling Iowa wins this one. 28-24 Hawks and I return to Vegas with frostbite on 4 fingers. If the Hawks are embarassed in this game, lets all hope they lose out to force some much needed change.

I realize we are still a week out, but it is time to see what everyone is predicting for Iowa vs Illinois. Quite frankly your guess is as good as mine. Illinois was a team I thought had a chance to be a real contender this year. Although they have had almost as many ups and downs as Iowa, they look to have righted the ship against Indiana. The Illinois vs Wisconsin game this weekend should offer us more insight as to what Illinois team will be taking the field against Iowa. Both teams are trying to salvage a respectable season. Both teams as of now are coming off massive wins. The Hawks have a bye week this week so at this point I would say anything can happen.

The Hawks have been looking like a shark that just got the scent of blood. Everyone on that team realizes they are on the verge of being a real contender. I think Iowa goes into Illinois with something to prove. My (pre Wisconsin vs Illinois) prediction goes to the Hawks 34-24. If the Hawks are able to pull it off, watch out Penn State. You were able to sucker us in again Kirk- see you at the Iowa vs Penn State game!

The most pathetic team that Wisconsin has fielded in several years comes in to Iowa City on Saturday. They have no qb which plays to the run stuffing Hawkeye defense. There is no way Iowa can lose this game. We are superior or equal at every position on the field. Even Ron Zook could win this game on the sidelines in Iowa City. Iowa 35 Wisc 7.

I am going to have to disagree. If Wisconsin hadnt just lost a few games in a row, I think Iowa would have a better chance. Although every game in college football is a must win, this is REALLY a must win for a previously ranked Wisconsin team. I predict a tight game, but give the "W" to Wisconsin. 27-20. A side note: If Michigan were playing Iowa.......they would get their asses kicked. I'm going to go and cry now.

The only thing worse than those farm animals Wisconsin calls cheerleaders is its swiss cheese defense. Iowa wins 45-13. Greene goes for 270.

Iowa will go on to beat Penn State and all of you will love Coach Ferentz again. Hawkeye fans will set an attendance record at the Alamo bowl this year. GO HAWKS!

Most of us hit the nail on the head with regards to Iowa's slaying of Indiana. This game may be somewhat more difficult to predict. At this point, who knows what Hawkeye team will show up. It is impressive that Kirk's soldiers have not yet folded up shop after three consecutive losses. Now that they have a taste for blood, Wisconsin should be their next victim. Iowa makes a statement this week by spanking Sconny 27-17.

Hawkeyes have enough talent to be winning games-see the stats below from Espn.com's Adam Rittenberg:

For years, I was convinced that rushing offense and rushing defense were the two most important indicators of success in college football. Teams that excelled in both areas usually had strong records; those who didn't lingered in the basement of their respective leagues.

Then Iowa came along. The Hawkeyes rank 19th nationally in rushing defense (98.8 ypg) despite facing three top-40 rushers (Javon Ringer, LeSean McCoy and Tyrell Sutton). They also boast the nation's sixth-leading rusher in junior Shonn Greene (137 ypg).

Hawkeyes have been close to winning the majority of games they have lost this season. Hawkeyes rank last in Big Ten for converting red-zone plays to points(19 of 26 for converting red zone plays into points). At the same time-hawks rank 3rd in the big ten for red zone opportunities, and tie for 6th in red zone touchdowns.

The results of poor play calling/coaching in the red zone=losing the last 3 consecutive games by 5 points or less.
